Chudlen of Mandarava is a terma revealed by Chögyal Namkhai Norbu in 1985, and since that time Rinpoche taught the Mandarava practice with Chudlen and Tsalung in many different places.
Our Master always made us understand that thanks to this practice of Mandarava he could have a significantly longer life.
About Chudlen, Rinpoche said:
“It is important to remember that Chudlen is teaching. Many people think that it is a kind of vitamin or a kind of strengthening medicine. There are in fact many medical substances in Chudlen pills or paste for strengthening our energy, but our existence is not only material.
If we were only a physical body we could, of course, reinforce ourselves with just medicine, but we are always saying, our existence consists of body voice and mind. Chudlen is for reinforcing and coordinating three fundamental aspects of our existence.”
Chögyal Namkhai Norbu had asked the Bhutanese doctor of Tibetan Medicine, Dr. Tenzin Sherab, living in Kathmandu, to prepare these Chudlen pills for the practitioners of the Dzogchen Community, and for many years until today, Dr. Sherab has always prepared these precious pills for us.
In July 2019, Dr. Sherab visited the Shang Shung Institute Austria for three days. This visit has become the base for a fruitful collaboration. In August 2019, a Memorandum of Understanding about this agreed future collaboration between Atiyoga Foundation, the School of Tibetan Medicine, and Dr. Sherab and his clinic, Pure Vision Sorig, was signed by Marco Baseggio and Dr. Sherab in Merigar West.
Later on, in December 2019, Ilaria Faccioli visited Dr. Sherab and his clinic in Pharping, Nepal, on behalf of the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine Tenerife.
During this visit two documentary videos on Chudlen precious pills were filmed and edited. In these videos Dr. Sherab explains not only how he received the Mandarava Chudlen formula from Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, but also the process of the preparation of these precious pills with their specific ingredients according to the terma of Rinpoche.
With infinite gratitude to Chögyal Namkhai Norbu, these original videos will be released during Mandarava retreat 2020 in Dzamling Gar. Afterwards they will also be available on the YouTube channel of the Shang Shung School of Tibetan Medicine Tenerife.
